With you not here, for reasons dear

With you not here, for reasons dear,
No one can tell me why I cannot fear.
With pain of night and sorrow of day,
No one says that I should stay.

And if I should go before the night,
Some might say that it was out of fright.
And I shall go in mourning light,
You might be sad, or filled with delight.

I sorrow should come, when I am gone,
I wish that you do not come along.
And if you decide to come along,
There will be none to sing this song.

But while I am here and so are you,
There will be two to share this pew.
If one shall leave, and not come back,
The other one shall face the facts.
